What’s Your Risk Profile? TAKE THE QUIZ

Hey, I’m Deb!

REGISTERED DIETITIAN + BONE HEALTH SPECIALIST

Helping you to build strong healthy bones for a healthy active life!

When I discovered that my bones were showing signs of osteopenia (bone thinning) I felt angry, even depressed…

I know as a registered dietitian I should have attended to the warning signs and symptoms much earlier on – but the truth is – it’s all too easy to be so focused on the emotional and external physical changes of menopause, that it’s easy to miss the internal changes happening in your bones.

And I know what it’s like to struggle to book a doctors appointment…

and then to have doctors that dismiss you…

and have to have to push to get the bone density scans you need…

And I know what it’s like to go on a journey to heal your bones…

Today, I’m passionate about helping others to prevent, slow down degeneration and heal their bones.

I’m passionate about helping you to spot the signs so you can take steps to prevent and slow down the de-generation of your bones. And I’m a firm believer that whatever your diagnosis – with the right treatment plan – you can still maintain good bone health and lead an active, healthy, happy life

Let’s be honest, we’re all living longer.

And bone density can impact you no matter your stage of life. Not just in your older years.

It’s never too late to preserve, prevent or treat bone loss.

You can take steps to slow bone loss and keep your bones healthy. You can get your future back.

And I want to help you do that!

We conduct a lot of research into vitamin D at the University of Surrey and our key research
work looking at diet and sunlight exposure on vitamin D levels in Caucasian and South Asian
women (known as the DFINES study) has been an important piece of research for the UK.
Deborah proved herself to be a first-rate research nutritionist on this project and was a very
important member of the DFINES Research Team.

Don’t ignore minor aches and pains – take action now and protect your bone health

When you feel fit, healthy and are leading an active lifestyle, minor aches and pains can seem trivial and are often ignored. Then maybe indirectly, a shock diagnosis can be life-changing, even changing the way you view yourself. It can make you reflect on what you should have questioned, and often pick up failings in your health service. Building confidence to find expert advice and support can take the fear and anxiety away for a future active life,

From a postgraduate background in microbiology, teaching and clinical trials management, I later studied and graduated in Nutrition & Dietetics at Surrey University, UK.

Then as a registered dietitian initially within the NHS and more recently as a freelance consultant, for over 20 years I have had the opportunity to work on many aspects of clinical and community nutrition and health issues, allowing me to combine my passion for scientific research, nutrition and public health policy.

My professional expertise and interests include:

  • professional membership of the Royal Osteoporosis Society
  • membership of the British Dietetic Association and Nutrition Society
  • international member of the US Academy Nutrition & Dietetics
  • stakeholder participation in academic and governmental strategies tackling food policy issues

Over the years of working in nutrition and dietetics, I have witnessed that bone disease can have a devastating impact on individuals. Lose too much bone, make too little, or both… and bones can become weak, break, even with a minor fall, lead to pain, deformity, and a downward spiral into physical and sometimes mental health problems.

The problem is…..

Bone disease is a “silent” condition because many people don’t know they have it until they suffer a fracture.

As a dietitian, I want to help you take care of your bones through- nutrition, mindset and movement…

So that you can be confident and supported to protect your bones for living an active, healthy, happy life.
